Life in the “pols” of the old walled city of Ahmedabad is as authentic as you can expect.

When we visited these closed communities last Summer, we were guided through their narrow streets, well-kept secrets, and impressive architecture.

The ancient houses we saw (and stopped to admire) are Ahmedabad’s History and Heritage testimonials. We visited one of them, in particular, that was going through a laborious and skillful restoration.

The renovation work is completed, and we can finally introduce to you the French Haveli: the newest Boutique Heritage Home in Ahmedabad.

What appealed to us right from the start was that not only this concept of accommodation allows you to experience the local community while you visit the second-largest city in the state of Gujarat, but the mission behind this project is also to promote local heritage by re-purposing a Historical building and inspiring others to work on preserving this legacy.

The French Haveli provides the visitors with a different approach to the typical Bed and Breakfast lodging.

There has been careful attention to detail to convey both originality and comfort. Each of the five rooms has been furnished with vintage pieces and a contemporary design.

Each one of the rooms is named after some particularity of the old Ahmedabad culture and life, like the “Chabutro” (bird feeder) or the “Ordo,” named after the traditional retiring rooms.

By booking your stay at the French Haveli, you’ll experience Gujarati hospitality, and you’re just a few steps away from the local culture.

A 10-minute walk will take you to the famous and always busy Manek Chowk market (selling religious articles in the morning, jewelry in the afternoon, and street food in the evening) and to the nearby Muslim tombs of Ahmedabad’s first King and Queen and the beautiful Jama Masjid built in 1424 and considered to be the largest Mosque to be made in India around that time.
